Amjad Sabri is not impressed with Atif Aslam’s ‘Tajdar-E-Haram’ : He was no where near the original track

The first episode of Coke Studio season 8 featured Atif Aslam ‘revitalize Tajdar- e Haram’ the qawwali of famous classical ‘Sabri brothers’. The track has racked up over 2.5 million plays across different internet platforms within days. Even, the original owner of the track Amjad Sabri loved the revitalized version of his famous song.

According to local media reports Amjad said, “I really like how the music was arranged. Atif didn’t do badly. I wish he could have worked on his diction a little more,” he maintained, adding that spinning around the original poetry was also not one of the best ideas.

Amjad was of the view that there is no harm in changing any form of classical music particularly qawwali, according to modern needs, as long as the essence remains untouched. He also mentioned that Coke Studio authorities took permission from him to reprise the original track unlike Indian filmmaker who regenerated his famous qawwali without consent.

Referring to the iconic qawwali ‘Bhar Do Jholi’ that was reproduced without permission in Salman Khan’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, he said, “This is exactly what’s wrong with the Adnan Sami version. It’s totally disgusting and disrespectful towards the legacy of Sabri Brothers,” local media reported.
