From popstar to televangelist: The style evolution of Junaid Jamshed

Junaid Jamshed may be an enigma today but he was — for nearly two decades — a style icon for a lot us. Wasn’t he?

Soon after joining Vital Signs, JJ not only delivered chart-topping music albums but also took the nation by storm with his incredible good looks. But his career took a new turn when he completely devoted himself to religion in early 2000s.

Today we take a look at his dramatic style evolution from a popstar in the ’80s to a televangelist who graces our TV screens every Ramazan:

The ’80s popstar:

Fashion-forward Junaid was right on the trend as he sported voluminous hair, over-sized leather jackets and denim. Beyond retro, we say!

Forget the dress code!

Only Junaid could pull off chappals with a formal shirt and pants. He absolutely rocked his less-dramatic mullet.

Chocolate hero:

Junaid made his acting debut in the ’90s with Dundle Raste on PTV. His clean-shaven look, those hair flicks and bright eyes could easily charm anyone. And they did!

Who said pink is for girls?

JJ was clearly someone who didn’t conform to fashion norms. Pink shalwar kameez with an ajrak? Pulled it off like a boss!

Powerhouse of talent:

Besides his captivating personality, Junaid possesses inimitable vocal prowess which mesmerises us till date.

Road to ‘recovery’:

In 2004, Junaid’s life took a dramatic turn as he announced to quit his illustrious music career. Signs of transformation became evident in his appearance. Initially, he sported a moderate-length beard and regular shalwar kameez.

But gradually, the length of his beard started increasing as the length of his trousers decreased. Turbans too became an integral part of his wardrobe.

All in all, we still appreciate his style as his love for Dil Dil Pakistan remains eternal.
