Pemra’s different rules for ‘big’ Geo/ARY and ‘small’ Neo/Din channels

(Pak Destiny) The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has different standards to punish ‘big’ and ‘small’ TV channels.

PEMRA has banned small channels – Neo News and Din News – for seven and 30 days respectively, for airing a news against a supreme court judge alleging that he had a meeting with PML-N leader Hehal Hashmi with regard to some case.
PEMRA had only imposed 15 days ban on Geo News when it held a media trial of former ISI chief Gen Zaheerul Islam after the attack on Hamid Mir. Recently it banned on Dr Shahid Masood of ARY for doing a programme against a Sindh High Court judge for 45 days. But did not ban ARY.
Why this discrimination — PEMRA chief Absar Alam should have banned Ahmad Qureshi, Neo anchor, for doing the program against the SC judge like it did in case of Dr Shahid Masood.
For Din News, a small channel, is treated too harshly. PEMRA must shun double standards and treat ‘big and small’ channels equally. Pak Destiny
