Sharifs media sympathisers active to save their skin

Lahore, March 14 (Pakdestiny.com) Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz Sharif, accused of receiving Rs 3.5 million and Rs 2.5 million from ISI in Mehrangate case, have made their ‘sympathizers’ in the media active to pass on the buck to ‘intelligence agencies’ and PPP to save their skin.

Among the columnists Atta ul Haq Qasmi and Irfan Siddiqui, anchors Kamran Khan and Javed Chaudhry are on forefront in saving their ‘beloved’ politicians from the quagmire. But will they succeed let’s see. Interestingly, the Sharif brothers, who were for all praise for ‘independent’ judiciary, has now turned their guns towards it for taking up the 1996 petition of Air Martial (R) Asghar Khan. The PML-N thinks that the judiciary wants to give an impression that it is not only taking up the cases related to the PPP.

“When our country is facing so many crises our judiciary has started digging up mummies,” argues a PML-N activist. Younis Habib (former chief of Mehran Bank) who had gone ‘underground’ suddenly resurfaced and opened the pandora box. PPP is enjoying Hanbib’s startling disclosures hoping that these will have strong impact in 2013 elections. Why not the Sharif brothers admit their involvement in Mehrangate scandal? asks PPP leader Imtiaz Safdar Warriach. Their sin cannot be washed by their mere denial, he says. PPP Gujar-style politician Raja Raiz has demanded that Shahbaz should take oath on Quran to prove his innocence.

PML-N out of bewilderment claims Habib is Zardari’s ‘man’. PML-N hawks, Rana Sana and Parvez Rashid, while defending their party in the Mehrangate, have pointed finger at the PPP for bringing in old players to malign the Sharifs. Our history is replete with financial scandals like cooperatives and Double Shah- in which people were deprived of billions of rupees. The Mehrangate is another feather to the cap of our corruption-ridden society. So never mind.
