A last ditch effort to save Arsalan Iftikhar

Islamabad, Aug 2 (http://www.pakdestiny.com) To the surprise of many the Supreme Court has stopped the Joint Investigation Team from collecting evidence against Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry’s son Arsalan.
The SC in its order said: “The National Accountability Bureau is taking keen interest in the case (Arsalan-Riaz) therefore we stop it from the further probe for few days.” This was the justification the two-member bench comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Husain gave while passing the order apparently in order to ‘save’ the CJ’s son.
The unprecedented favour the SC is extending to an accused even has forced the counsel of Malik Riaz to speak against it but the poor Zahid Bokhari has no other forum to knock at.
Isn’t it a big shame for us as a nation that the apex court which is supposed to ensure merit and justice is itself involved in favouritism?
Iftikhar Chaudhry-led judiciary was not ready to spare any one when it came to cases of top politicians’ sons Moonis Elahi, Mosa and Qadir Gilani and even he was quick to make a commission to probe into the memogate scandal and allowed the commission member to visit London to record Mansoor Ijaz statement.
Now the SC stopping the JIT from visiting London to collect evidence against Arsalan Iftikhar, perhaps it knows that the JIT would get the proof of Rs340 million Arsalan received from Malik Riaz and it be enough to send him behind the bars.
Is there any one to raise the double standards of our so-called independent judiciary?
Despite reports of receiving favours in cash and kind from Malik Riaz the top journalists and anchors are busy following the vested interest and the CJ is keeping a mum on it, where is suo motu? (http://www.pakdestiny.com)
