Arsalan Iftikhar, a sacred cow?

Islamabad, Oct 3 News Desk (www.pakdestiny.com) The Supreme Court again put its weight behind the Chief Justice’s son Arsalan Iftikhar and rejected property tycoon Malik Riaz’s plea, in which he had requested the apex court to stop the proceedings of the commission, led by Federal Tax Ombudsman Dr Shoiab Suddle to investigate the graft scandal involving Riaz and Arsalan.
A two-member bench consisting of Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif heard review petition of Malik Riaz on Tuesday. And the bench had no surprise for media or anyone else as it was the matter related to the CJ’s son for whom our SC has soft corner and this fact is no more a secret for anyone.
The general impression among the people is the whole SC has put its weight behind the CJ’s son to save him from the clutches of law.
Arslan is accused of receiving Rs900 million from Riaz and spending some bucks from it lavishly abroad.
The CJ’s cronies in SC are not letting any one to raise even questions on its partiality in this case. A sad but a true fact.
On wonders as how a relative of the CJ could probe the corruption of his son.
Riaz’s Attorney Zahid Bukhari said that forming a commission over the case between two individual was unprecedented in the judicial history.
Bukhari said that his client appealed to the apex court because he felt that the court orders were not being implemented properly.
He pleaded that a stay order should be issued against the commission.
The apex court said that it can not issue stay order without listening the point of view of other parties to the case.
The court issued notices to all the parties to the case to present their statements before the SC and adjourned the hearing until October 30.
The apex court had formed one man commission constituting Shoaib Suddle on August 30 after granting the appeal filed by Arsalan Iftikhar, son of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Malik Riaz submitted an appeal to the SC on Sept 11 to review the formation of the commission. Bukhari claimed that the ‘Shoaib Suddle commission’ was formed without his client’s consultation. (www.pakdestiny.com)
