Fazlur Rehman’s comrade calls Marvi Sarmad ‘whore’ in live TV show

By Ambreen Fatima

(Pakdestiny.com) A comrade of Fazlur Rehman has allegedly called rights activist Marvi Sirmed a ‘whore’ in a live TV talk show.

The show aired on private television channel NewsOne hosted by Nadia Mirza. There was a debate on recent honour killings especially of Zeenat in Lahore, Ambreen in Abottabad when Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F)  Senator Hafiz Hamdullah got angry over Ms Sirmed for condemning clerics of endorsing ‘torture’ of women.

She also endorsed words of Barrister Masroor, another panelist, who said (clerics of Council of Islamic Ideology) ‘pee k soey hue hain’ (sleeping after getting intoxicated).

The CII chairman Maulana Sherani belongs to JUI-F. On this Hamdullah told Marvi “I won’t allow you to speak if you are supporting his words.” But Marvi hit him with same coin and arguments resulted in an exchange of hot words between them.

The questionable language was omitted from the transmission.  Marvi in her Facebook post claimed that Hamdullah called her whore and used abusive language. She claimed that Hamdullah even tried to hit her but another participant saved.

Later she also confessed that she also paid him with same coin.

Marvi Sarmad wrote on her Facebook: “I have just undergone a very traumatic experience at a News One program (Nadia Mirza Show) when Hafiz Hamdullah of JUIF got angry on a comment by Barrister Masroor. When my turn came, I started my comment by saying “I agree with Masroor sahib to the extent that…” and here Hamdullah cut me and went on and on with his arrogance and rudeness. I responded in almost the same coin. And that’s when he started abusing me with worst possible expletives. Called me a whore and said “tumhaari shalwaar utaar dooN ga aur tumhaari maaN ki bhi”. I returned this to his own family women. And then he tried to beat me. All of this recorded in camera. Fayaz ul Hassan Chauhan held him so his punches don’t reach me. He had to be taken away by the News One security. And this religious merchant was fasting while he did all this. ”

It will be interesting to see how Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) reacts to this episode. – Pak Destiny
