Punjab IGP reports ‘sectarian unrest’ if PML-N makes electoral alliance with ASWJ

Islamabad, March 17 (www.pakdestiny.com) The Inspector General of Police Punjab reports that an electoral alliance between the PML-N and Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) can “lead to violent sectarian unrest in the province.”
In a letter no-51402-4/OPS-III obtained by Pak Destiny, the IGP says strong will of the government is required to make the banned organizations strictly abide by the law otherwise no let up will be seen in sectarian targeted killing and clashes.
The ASWJ is earlier known as Sipah-e-Sihaba Pakistan (SSP). Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LeJ) is also part of SSP. Both organizations are banned.
The IGP says the activities of these banned organizations pertaining to collection of funds should be discouraged. “Local administration and police must proactively intervene in hot spots before trouble actually begins so as to prevent the incidents reaching violent levels.
The report says the ASWJ is likely to contest in coming elections and its chief Maulana Ahmed Ludhianvi held a meeting with Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah for seeking PMLN help for Ludhianvi to contest from a Jhang national assembly seat.
The ASWJ had also supported the PML-N in by-polls in south Punjab. – Pak Destiny
