The Netherlands is all set to honor the legendary Pakistani artist, painter, and Sufi poet Sadequain with the Sadequain Art Festival, January 2026 in The Hague.
Sadequain is known in Europe as he worked collaboratively with European institutions, influencing modern art through murals, calligraphy, and Sufi philosophy. His legacy continues to inspire artists and audiences beyond South Asia.
Spearheading this cultural celebration is Mohammad Saeed, Chairman of the Intercultural Progressieve Stichting (IPS), who has been active in film, music, theatre, and cultural programming since 1998.
Sadequain, who received four major national awards from the Government of Pakistan, is being celebrated internationally for his art and poetry.

IPS has decided to present his poetry in Qawali form, performed by the internationally renowned Muhammad Shehzad Mian Meeri Qawal from Lahore, Pakistan, preserving the Sufi essence of Sadequain’s work.
The festival carries the universal message of “Love, Peace, and Harmony”, bringing together South Asian and European communities.
Mr. Saeed said Sadequain is a global cultural icon. His art and poetry transcend borders, carrying messages of peace, unity, and spiritual harmony. Because he collaborated with European institutions during his lifetime, it was natural to present his legacy in the Netherlands.
Moreover, Dr. Salman Ahmed, President of the Sadequain Foundation USA, has issued a formal letter to IPS endorsing the festival.
Announcements have been shared widely on social media. Dr. Salman Ahmed has authored several books and has spent decades promoting Sadequain’s work internationally. His support adds immense significance to this festival.
The festival opens on 17 January 2026 at Filmhuis The Hague and runs until 5 February 2026.
