Mohsin Naqvi — The destroyer of Pakistan cricket — PM asked to sack him from PCB

By Irum Saleem

After back to back humiliation at the hands of Indian cricket team, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was massively trolled on social media, calling Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to sack him (Naqvi) without any further delay for destroying Pakistan cricket.

Pakistan on Sunday lost to India in the final of Asia Cup 2025, a third consecutive loss to it in this tournament. Later, the Indian team refused to take winning trophy from Naqvi, who is also chairman of Asia Cricket Council.

“If the ‘selected’ Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has some guts, he should take serious notice against tout PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who has destroyed the cricket team in such a short time,” Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) senior leader and former federal minister Moonis Elahi said in a post on X on Monday.

“Naqvi is responsible for Pakistan’s third consecutive defeat to India in the Asia Cricket Cup. The disastrous outcome of appointing a tout as the head of the PCB. This shameless man, Naqvi, feels no remorse, but those who installed him should at least reflect,” Mr Moonis said and demanded immediate removal of him from the PCB.

Another user on social media Zorakh Baloch said: “If there had been a person of dignity in Mohsin Naqvi’s place, he would have immediately thrown his resignation in ICC’s face. But Naqvi, showing stubbornness, upheld his traditions. By the way, watching the Indian players’ Instagram reels during the award ceremony is a resounding slap on the shameless Naqvi’s face.”

Masood Usmani on post X said: “Mohsin Naqvi is running the entire cricket setup as his personal servant, and no one at the top seems to bothered about it. It appears if PM Shehbaz  takes any action against Naqvi even his own chair could be in trouble (because he is close to the army chief).”

Journalist Umar Draz Gondal said whether the Indian captain refused to shake hands, gave a political statement, or the Indian team didn’t receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi — there was only one answer to all of this: defeat India in the stadium and shut their mouths.

“Cricket in Pakistan is not heading toward decline. It has already declined just like hockey did. The question is — why did this happen? When Mohsin Naqvi was appointed through a slip from the “big boss” and became PCB chairman only because he is their blue-eyed, and no one in this country can hold him accountable, then who can demand accountability from the team for these repeated humiliations?” he lambasted.

He said forget what the Indian captain said about there being no rivalry anymore — ask any child in Pakistan who will win an India-Pakistan match, and you’ll get the same answer, which has now been confirmed by the results of these three matches.”Thanks to Mohsin Naqvi and his patrons,” he taunted.

Former Governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair said: “Pakistan’s best batsman Babar Azam was dropped by this man. He also made sure to drop Pakistan’s best wicketkeeper batsman Rizwan. Selecting instead players like Salman Agha and Harris. He destroyed our batting.”

Sana said Naqvi nurtured a grudge against  genuine all-rounder AmirJamal and sidelined him permanently for his #804 gesture (Imran Khan’s jail cell number). What a pity, and what a huge loss for Pakistan cricket.
