The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is seriously considering boycotting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in solidarity with Bangladesh amid growing regional security concerns, sources confirmed on Monday.

According to insiders, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has ordered an immediate suspension of all preparations related to the tournament. Team management has been informed that further instructions will be issued after a comprehensive review of the situation.

Sources revealed that the PCB has also instructed team officials to develop a contingency plan in case Pakistan formally withdraws from the event. This directive reflects the seriousness with which the board is evaluating the political and security dimensions surrounding the tournament.

The development follows Bangladesh’s decision not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup, citing security risks for its players and officials. Pakistan has conveyed full diplomatic and moral support to Bangladesh’s stance and has expressed concern over the lack of satisfactory assurances from the host authorities.

Senior PCB officials believe Bangladesh’s reservations are valid and justified. They have indicated that Pakistan does not wish to participate in a tournament where a fellow cricketing nation feels unsafe and unheard. Sources confirmed that Islamabad has communicated to relevant stakeholders that if Bangladesh’s concerns remain unaddressed, Pakistan will strongly consider withdrawing as an act of solidarity.

The issue is currently under discussion at the highest levels of the PCB, with consultations underway involving legal, diplomatic, and cricketing stakeholders. Any final decision will depend on further clarity from the International Cricket Council and the host country regarding security guarantees and participation assurances.

For now, Pakistan’s participation in the ICC T20 World Cup remains uncertain. However, the emerging position within the PCB suggests that solidarity with Bangladesh and regional security concerns could outweigh sporting considerations.
