PPP leader and former ETPB chairman Syed Asif Hashmi has hailed Field Marshal Asim Munir’s alleged role in facilitating US-Iran peace efforts, saying he deserves consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize.
He also commended Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, crediting Pakistan’s military and political leadership for helping ease regional tensions and enhancing the country’s international standing.
Asif Hashmi (Sitara-i-Imtiaz) said a successful role in facilitating peace efforts between the United States and Iran, was played by Pakistan.
He said the army chief deserves international recognition, including consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Speaking in Lahore, Hashmi said that the recent understanding reached between Washington and Tehran has helped reduce tensions in a highly volatile region and contributed to prospects for global peace and stability. He maintained that the efforts of Pakistan’s military and political leadership had elevated the country’s standing in the international community and earned respect for the Pakistani nation worldwide.
According to Hashmi, examples of such successful mediation at the global level are rare, and Pakistan’s role in helping bridge differences between major international actors reflects the country’s growing diplomatic significance. He said that the peace initiatives associated with Field Marshal Asim Munir’s efforts had potentially helped avert a wider conflict and contributed to safeguarding millions of lives.
The PPP leader further argued that peace and stability in the Middle East and beyond would have positive economic implications across the world, fostering trade, investment and prosperity. He emphasized that reducing regional tensions is essential for ensuring sustainable economic growth and international cooperation.
Asif Hashmi also lauded Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, saying that his services to the country merit the highest national recognition. He said Pakistan’s role in facilitating recent contacts and mediation efforts between the United States and Iran had been highlighted globally, adding that both military and civilian institutions played an important part in projecting a positive image of the country.
Hashmi noted that Mohsin Naqvi’s tireless efforts formed part of the broader diplomatic initiative undertaken by Pakistan. He credited the team led by Field Marshal Asim Munir with contributing to a reduction in tensions in the Middle East, adding that the diplomatic success had also helped bring greater stability to international energy markets.
He concluded that Pakistan’s constructive engagement in regional and international diplomacy demonstrates its potential to play a meaningful role in promoting peace, dialogue and conflict resolution at a time of growing global uncertainty.
