Finally Iftikhar Chaudhry and company facing law in housing scam, his son-in-law arrested

• NAB is after his son Arsalan and other relatives

    (Pak Destiny) Finally former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Chaudhry, his son Irsalan and son-in-law Murtaza have come under the long hands of law in the multi-billion rupees scam of Eden Housing.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry  today confirmed the arrest of Murtaza Amjad by the Federal Investigation Agency in UAE. He termed it big achievement in the government’s campaign for accountability.

“Former CJP Chaudhry had made the shocking decision by hearing a case regarding the housing scheme himself, and later gave relief to its owners because they were the in-laws of his daughter. Others accused in this scam are Iftikhar Chaudhry’s son, Arsalan Iftikhar, his daughter and the father-in-law of his daughter,” Fawad Chaudhry said.

Scores of 10,000 affectees of the Eden Housing Society had last Sunday held a demonstration outside the Lahore residence of Prime Minister Khan, urging him to help them recover their hard-earned money allegedly looted by the group that launched the housing scheme.  NAB has estimated the property owned by the Eden group to be worth up to Rs20bn.

In June, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) had written a letter to NAB Chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal, asking him to launch an investigation against ex-CJP Chaudhry and his family for allegedly receiving benefits in the scam of the failed Eden Housing Society.

Arsalan Iftikhar also reportedly made fortunes in the housing sector with the help of Dr Amjad, owner of Eden Housing Society. It is said if fair investigation is made Arsalan may go behind the bar. Iftikhar Chaudhry too is not clean as he had allegedly stopped the NAB from taking action against the owners of the Eden Housing Developers.

There are also reports that Arsalan Iftikhar has parked billions out of the country with the help of his father. Let’s see if NAB and FIA are allowed to investigate this. – Pak Destiny
