Islamabad, April 8 (Pak Destiny) Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is facing immense pressure from the “quarters concerned” to sack Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif for using harsh language against the army.
“PM Sharif is under a lot of pressure to sack Khawaja Asif to oblige the army,” a top PML-N minister told Pak Destiny on Tuesday.
“The amount of mistrust between Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif will further increase if the premier does not send the firebrand minister packing. There are many chances that Khawaja is no more allowed in GHQ as defence minister if he retains the portfolio,” the N-League leader said.
If Nawaz realises this then Khawaja’s days as defence minister are numbered, he said.
Khawaja had targeted the army while criticising Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf.
Today he indirectly replied to Gen Raheel’s statement.
He said the Parliament is the supreme organ of the state and all other institutions are accountable to it.
Khawaja said the Parliament was a supreme organ of the state and that it would preserve its dignity and also respect all the other institutions.
The statement comes a day after Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif told a meeting of special services Group at Ghazi base that Pakistan Army upheld the sanctity of all institutions. – Pak Destiny
