Islamabad, Sept 10 (www.pakdestiny.com) The cat has finally come out of the bag. The Senate Committee on Sports has smelled a rat in the PTV Sports ‘deliberate move’ to stay away from taking part in the bid to get rights to broadcast Pakistan Cricket Team South Africa and Sri Lanka series.
Presided over by Senator Kamil Ali Agha the Senate Committee on Monday in Islamabad grilled Dr Nauman as his appointment on the top post of the PTV Sports is made in violation of Supreme Court orders.
The Senators quizzed him as how PTV sports chose not to take part in the bid to get the rights to broadcast South Africa and Sri Lanka series whereas it is even broadcasting other countries cricket series.
They questioned whether he (Nouman) made any deal with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) which is led by Najam Sethi. They say this ‘scam’s’ is leading them to the door of the PCB acting chairman.
Interestingly, Dr Nauman who is the blue eyed of a former PTV MD ‘voluntarily’ withdrew the PTV Sports from the bidding making a way clear for two private channels to secure the rights.
Ten Sports got Pak series with South Africa and Geo Super for Sri Lanka.
Anchor Talat Hussain earlier had hinted that Najam Sethi would protect the interests of his parent organization – Geo – where he conducts a political current affairs show. And rightly so, his apprehension proves correct.
The Senators have announced to get the matter and the appointment of Dr Nouman investigated by a judicial commission. Let’s see if Sethi this time too manages to save his skin. – Pak Destiny
