Anchor Dr Shah Masood finally 'gets away' with embezzlement of Rs37m

By Sarmad Ali

Highly controversial anchor Shahid Masood has finally gets his freedom in Rs37m corruption case. He may get clean chit in the corruption case of millions of rupees.

Supreme Court on Monday granted him bail for allegedly embezzling Rs37 million from state-run broadcaster Pakistan Television.    One could only wonder that this notorious anchor could not spend much time in jail while his fellow anchors running campaigns on social media demanding his release.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) says Dr Masood during his tenure as managing director and chairman of PTV was involved in the embezzlement of Rs37 million in acquiring Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) media rights in 2008.

The agreement was allegedly carried out with a fake company — M/s International Sports Solution (ISS). Investigators claim that funds were also released, causing the loss of millions of dollars to PTV as the state-run television channel failed to acquire PCB media rights from 2008 to 2013.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Manzoor Ahmed accepted Masood’s bail application.

Earlier, Islamabad High Court (IHC) had rejected his request for bail.    Now this ‘Dr Death’ will soon be seen on private TV channels giving sermons on corruption. One has to be worried about this system that protects people like Shahid Masood. Pak Destiny
