Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan underwent emergency surgery after being stabbed by an intruder at his Mumbai residence in the early hours of Thursday morning. According to his team, the actor is now out of danger and recovering at Lilavati Hospital, while police investigate the case.
The incident occurred in an upscale neighborhood of Mumbai, where Khan resides with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two young children. While the family was reported to be safe, the attack has raised concerns about security in high-profile homes.
Mumbai police confirmed that an unidentified intruder entered Khan’s home past midnight. A confrontation ensued between the intruder and Khan, leading to the attack. “It appears to be an attempted burglary, but the exact circumstances are still under investigation,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam.
The actor’s team, while declining to share specifics, issued a statement: “Saif sustained injuries during the incident. Doctors confirm he is stable, and his recovery is being closely monitored. We urge fans and the media to respect his privacy while investigations are underway.”
Dr. Nitin Dange of Lilavati Hospital revealed that Khan suffered a major injury to his thoracic spinal cord due to a knife that had lodged in his spine. “A delicate surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid. Additionally, plastic surgery was done to treat deep wounds on his left hand and neck,” Dr. Dange stated.
The news shocked fans and the film fraternity, with an outpouring of concern and prayers on social media. Fellow Bollywood celebrities also expressed their well-wishes, wishing Khan a speedy recovery.
As the investigation unfolds, the incident serves as a sobering reminder of personal safety, even for stars within the presumed security of their homes. Police have formed special teams to apprehend the attacker.
