Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif sacrificed coveted post of PM to accommodate his daughter Maryam Nawaz for Punjab chief minister’s slot.
Nawaz Sharif reportedly decided to withdraw himself from the race of the prime minister office for his daughter Maryam Nawaz, who is going to lead Punjab as the first woman chief minister of the largest province by population of Pakistan.
“Nawaz Sharif could have become the PM of the coalition government for the fourth time but then his daughter would have no chance to become the Punjab CM. For the love of his daughter, Nawaz sacrificed his wish to become PM for the fourth time.”
Nawaz Sharif was given two choices by the military establishment after his party’s poor performance in the Feb 8 elections. “The first was, become premier of the coalition government in Islamabad and make his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif Punjab CM and the other was leave the top post for Shehbaz and he (Nawaz) can have his daughter Maryam accommodated as the CM Punjab office. Nawaz chose the second,” a source said and added since Shehbaz Sharif is a blue-eyed of the military, Nawaz had to be sidelined at the end of the day by one excuse or another.
Nomination of Shehbaz Sharif for the slot of prime minister has stirred quite a debate among the PML-N ranks questioning why its supreme leader Nawaz Sharif was “sidelined” despite earlier announcement in this respect.
Since the PMLN failed to win a simple majority in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif prevailed over his elder brother (Nawaz) in the race to grab the coveted post. – Pak Destiny
