'Vulgarity and Western culture' in Pak universities come under debate on Twitter

By Raza Ruman

Pakistani Universities promoting vulgarity and Western culture among youths…was the top trend on Twitter on Thursday.

There was a difference of opinion on the matter as most targeting the private universities of Punjab where boys and girls have a mixup.

“It’s ruining our culture and students’ values. Will Pakistani universities ever draw the line on moral policing through enforcing dress codes on female students?” asks one Hasan on Twitter.

“The debate around the politics of problematic dress codes emerged a few years ago when female students at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) were named and shamed for wearing jeans, tights and not wearing dupatta.”

Taj Wali said: “Pakistani Universities promoting vulgarity and Western culture among youths. It’s ruining our culture and students’ values. Will Pakistani universities ever draw the line on moral policing through enforcing dress codes on female students?”

Sara said: “Pakistani Universities spreading vulgarity in students on the name of culture. These Vulgar and pathetic dance party of girls & boys in a colleges/universities is not our culture. It must be stopped!”

Awais said: “Recently Express News aired two minute twenty seconds footage of a college cultural show which shocked many viewers and became viral on social media. However most of the people criticized the cultural show and used very harsh words against the college.”

But this opinion seems to be one sided. There should be freedom but guarded one. PAK DESTINY
