PIA plane crash: Chairman Saigol resigns – Dawn also gets unburdened

By Kiran Bokhari

(Pak Destiny) Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chairman Azam Saigol has finally resigned from his post on Monday citing ‘personal reasons’ but ATR tragedy in which 48 passengers including famous singer and religious figure Junaid Jamshad was killed, is the real reason behind.

Besides, Saigol’s resignation may prove in unburdening Dawn that has been criticised since Dawn Leaks. Saigol is associated with one of the directors of Dawn media group.

PIA spokesman Daniyal Gilani has confirmed Saigol’s resignation. The Nawaz government had appointed Saigol as chairman of the national flag carrier in May 2016. The Oxford educated Saigol is a well known industrialist of the country but his appointment got controversial after Dawn’s story ‘Act against militants and face international isolation’ published on Oct 6. Since then many had been pointing out that he had been appointed PIA chairman to oblige Dawn media group, which the group denied. — Pak Destiny
