The inside story of Saad Rafique’s appearance in NAB

(Pak Destiny)  Railways Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique who usually appears ‘defiant’ in public speeches, acted like an “obedient child” before the National Accountability Bureau’s Combined Investigation Team (CIT) in the Paragon City corruption case this week.

The inside story of Khawaja Saad Rafique’s appearance before the CIT Lahore on March 28 is altogether different what the minister depicted after his appearance.

Sources  privy to the development told Pak Destiny that Mr Rafique was quite uneasy when a three-member CIT started grilling him for his role in developing the Paragon City and subsequently selling its shares to his cronies. “Khwaja Saad Rafique (KSR) initially parried the CIT’s questions saying he has no link with this housing project but when it presented some solid proof KSR started feeling the heat,” a source said.

The CIT was also keen to known from him the amount of over Rs30 million which was transferred into the account of Paragon Society in connection with the Rs14bn Ashiana scam.

He said the CIT one by one put before him when he along with his cronies started off this (Paragon City) project and when he sold off his shares. “KSR felt sweating when the CIT told him how he influenced the Punjab government to acquire a government land for this society and also getting developed its roads through the government kitty.”

Before the CIT could start telling him the details of his assets, KSR preferred to talk about the Paragon affairs and promised it (CIT) to provide it with complete details of the government land acquisition and the people involved in it.

“KSR felt sweating when the CIT told him how he influenced the Punjab government to acquire a government land for this society and also getting developed its roads through the government kitty.”

Saad Rafique has promised to provide all details within 10 days. The way NAB is carrying out this investigation it seems that soon KSR will be the ‘guest’ of NAB.

The CIT was also keen to known from him the amount of over Rs30 million which was transferred into the account of Paragon Society in connection with the Rs14bn Ashiana scam.

“Saad Rafique’s media talk after NAB’s appearance was itself telling a lot what had happened there. Now you will see the hawkish minister will be looking up to someone who could help him save from NAB and in return he maintains silence on political front,” he said. Pak Destiny
