Unyielding Resilience --  Moonis Elahi and his family -- a target of political vengeance by PMLN regime

By Zulqernain

The story of senior Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader and former federal minister Moonis Elahi and his family is a testament to unwavering resilience in the face of relentless political victimisation under the PML-N regime.

The Elahi family, known for their strong political legacy and commitment to democratic principles, has endured some of the harshest tactics of state machinery aimed at suppressing their influence and silencing their support for former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Moonis Elahi, a prominent political figure and a staunch ally of Imran Khan, was compelled to leave Pakistan to escape the growing wave of political persecution in Pakistan.

Moonis’s departure was not a choice but a necessity, orchestrated to ensure his safety from fabricated cases and the misuse of power by the ruling regime. The government’s efforts to isolate him further extended to placing his family members on the no-fly list, effectively preventing any possibility of a family reunion and inflicting emotional distress.

Moonis’s father, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, PTI Central President and former Chief Minister of Punjab, faced the brunt of the PML-N’s political vendetta.

For supporting PTI chief Imran Khan and standing by his vision for Pakistan, Elahi was subjected to unprecedented harassment. He was incarcerated for a year under dubious charges, a clear attempt to extract revenge and send a message to others considering opposition to the government.

The persecution did not stop at legal harassment. Mr Elahi’s residence was stormed by law enforcement agencies in an act of sheer brutality following the fall of the Imran Khan government. Doors were broken, and the sanctity of his home in Gulberg Lahore was violated in a bid to make him an example.

Despite these attempts to intimidate, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi and his son Moonis Elahi stood resilient, refusing to bow down to the pressure tactics employed by the authorities.

The Elahi family’s ordeal highlights the extent to which political rivalry has been weaponised in Pakistan. Yet, amidst these adversities, the family has displayed remarkable strength and unity. Their refusal to compromise on their principles, even when faced with imprisonment, exile, and state-sponsored harassment, is a testament to their resilience.

Moonis Elahi, though far from his homeland, continues to inspire his supporters.

His unwavering commitment to his political ideals and his determination to return to Pakistan reflect his courage. Moonis’s supporters see him a resilient figure who despite immense pressure stood with Imran Khan as his perseverance  withstands even the harshest storms.

The Elahi family’s plight is emblematic of the broader issue of political victimisation in Pakistan, where governments often misuse state institutions to target opponents. Such tactics undermine democratic principles and erode public trust in the system.

By targeting political families like the Elahis, the ruling regime sends a chilling message to dissenting voices, discouraging free expression and opposition.

Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and Moonis Elahi’s resilience, combined with the unyielding strength of his family, offers a glimmer of hope in these challenging times.

The Elahi family’s supporters are optimistic about the change in Pakistan riding of the fascist regime.

The Elahi family’s steadfastness will ultimately triumph over the political oppression it has faced.

This story of resilience serves as a powerful reminder that the spirit of justice and democracy cannot be silenced by intimidation or persecution.

In the face of adversity, the Elahi family has stood as a beacon of strength for the PTI especially, symbolising the enduring fight for justice, dignity, and democratic values in Pakistan along with Mr Khan.

“Their journey is far from over, but their resilience assures us that they will continue to inspire and lead with courage and conviction.”
