BOL TV License suspended for 30 days for taking on judiciary -- PEMRA in its uncharacteristic mode

By Raza Ruman

One wonders how the PTI touted TV channel — BOL News — license is suspended. The Pakistan Election Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Friday suspended the BOL TV license for 30 days to do anti judiciary programs.

None else but pro PTI anchor Sami Ibrahim did the anti judiciary programs and he has no remorse on it. It seems something is being cooked at somewhere.

Recently Prime Minister Imran Khan happily had given him interview at the PM House.

Apparently it is a bold and courageous decision of the PEMRA that will earn it respect and make it strengthened.

What a shame for BOL TV which was launched only to further the propaganda of the vested interest.

It is not earning a single penny through ads… Seems like huge sum of black money is behind this venture.

PEMRA says while concluding a show cause notice dated 13-01-2021 issued to M/s Labbaik (Pvt.) Ltd. on its programme “Tajzia” hosted by Mr. Sami Ibrahim, PEMRA suspended satellite TV channel license conferred to “BOL NEWS” for 30 days and imposed fine to the tune of Rs. 1 million.

BOL News in its talk show aired contemptuous remarks against the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Lahore High Court and the other Hon’ble Judges while discussing the matter of appointment of judges in Lahore High Court. Both the host and the senior correspondent cast aspersions against the superior judiciary in violation of Article 19 read with article 68 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the PEMRA laws including the PEMRA Code of Conduct 2015. While responding the show cause notice “BOL News” acknowledged that content aired was in accordance with PEMRA laws and directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of Pakistan. The Channel did not express any regrets or remorse and argued that show cause notice issued in uncalled for and must be withdrawn.

Considering the reply submitted by BOL News and evaluating the content, the Authority concluded the matter on January 22, 2021 by suspending the licence for 30 days and imposing fine amounting to Rs, 1 Million payable within 30 days. PAK DESTINY
