There has been across the board call for resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja after Supreme Court’s historic verdict in reserved seats.

“The SC today gave verdict in favour of PTI. Now the chief election commissioner must resign as he has left with no moral authority. Justice prevailed today and Imran Khan will now also be released,” PTI senior leader and former federal minister Moonis Elahi said in a series of tweets.

PTI leader Zulfi Bokhari said: “The Nation should not only applaud the bravery of those Judges who stood with the rule of law and the constitution but we collectively should also ask for the resignation on @ECP_Pakistan and the Chief Election Commissioner. He has openly displayed his malafide intentions, which now the SC have overruled. If it was any other country he would be on trial for criminal charges. He should not be allowed to continue another day.”

TV anchor Muhammad Malik said: “The chief election commissioner has any honour left then after todays verdict by supreme court , he should resign and go home .Period!”

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday declared Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) eligible for seats reserved for women and minorities, dealing a major setback to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ruling coalition.

The verdict was announced by a 13-member bench of the top court, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

A day ago, the court had reserved its decision on the matter after closing the hearing on a set of appeals moved by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) against the denial of reserved seats for women and non-Muslims to it by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

PTI-backed candidates, who had contested and won the February 8 elections as independents after their party was stripped of its election symbol, had joined the SIC to form a coalition of convenience. PAK DESTINY
